Cusco | The group at Machu Picchu |
We landed in Cusco on Sunday Aug 6th, took a nap and hit the pavement. Our group of 15 people was actually coordinated enough to stick together and take a public bus up to Pisac. After Kirk passed out on the bus and scared us all half to death, we got to Pisac and wandered out and shopped. Lots of cheap stuff. ... Monday 13 of us got a tour van to take us around to see Moray, Maras, and Salinas, then we ended the day at Sacsahuayman. All great sites, and a neat experience. We ate dinner that night at Chez Maggy's. It was ok. |

| | The Inca Trail Starting Tuesday Aug 8th, the 15 of us hit the trail - the Inca Trail, through tour operator, Peru Treks and Adventure. They rocked. For all 3 days of the hike we had fun, great weather, incredible food and good times. Could have used some more sleep though! The 4th day we woke up extra early to get to Machu Picchu for sunrise. It was cloudy. Oh well. It was gorgeous anyway. Spectacular! |
| | Back to Cusco After a long train and bus ride from Machu Picchu back to Cusco, we had a nice late dinner at Inca Fe Cafe and some much-needed shut-eye. It felt good to sleep in! the next day we relaxed around town, toured the cathedral (of which the highlight was a rendition of the last supper with a guinea on the platter) and the Inca Museum. Dinner that night was at Ucumari, it was also our night to celebrate our accomplishment and drink a whole lot - doesn't take a lot of alcohol at 11,000 feet! |
