"My Travels" gt6303c's Profile
I am from the United States and was born in Louisiana. Both of my parents are from India. I learned English and Punjabi growing up as well as French in school. Unfortunately my Punjabi which was once very good is now pretty bad, my French I have almost totally forgotten. Growing up I made three trips to India. I was very young during these trips, the latest when I was 6 years old, and I remember very little about them. I have seen most of the US through family vacations, with the exception of the Midwest. I went to college in Atlanta, GA. at Georgia Tech. After graduating in 2001 I moved to Austin, TX, where I have lived since.
After I graduated from college in 2001, I realized I hadn't seen much of the world. Since then I have tried to travel as much as I could. I don't enjoy traveling alone, and usually go with one of two people. I have gone on many trips with my brother, and those trips usually focus on nightlife and entertainment. I have also gone on a few trips with a friend of mine from work named Tom; these trips are usually more cultural. I enjoy both types of travels and love being in new places experiencing new cultures. I try to pick up a little bit of the language wherever I go. Because of work, I don't get to go very often or for very long. So, I try to make the most of my vacation time.
I have been to Rio de Janeiro twice. I have a friend from High School who lives there. I was in Rio during the world cup in 2002, and got to celebrate when Brazil won. That was an amazing time that I will never forget. The second time I went back for my friend's wedding and had a blast. I think the city of Rio is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. I think the people are the most open and friendly I have ever met. I would definitely recommend anyone to visit. The basics in Portuguese are easy to learn and make the trip more fun.
I have been to Tokyo twice and had a great time exploring this city. Tokyo is so huge with so much to see and do. While it can be very expensive, I think the sites, food, and nightlife cannot be missed. Tokyo is very safe, and the metro makes it very easy to get around. I enjoyed both my trips here and will probably make another one at some point.
I didn't get to spend a lot of time in Mexico City, but I did get to see a lot. The city has a lot of history and culture. I was there during the run up to the 2006 presidential election, and it was a very political atmosphere. The subway system is good for getting around, and taxis aren't very expensive. You have to be a little careful when it comes to safety. It would be good to learn the basics in Spanish before going. I got to see the Mexican national team play soccer match at Estadio Azteca which was a wonderful experience.
