Airports from/to Rome: Tranvel in Rome from Airport to Civitavecchia Dock

Getting TO/AROUND: I don't have any insight into this question: What is the best (i.e. easiest, cheapest, most reliable, etc,) way to get from Fumicino Airport, outside of Rome, Italy, to the cruiseship docks at Civitavecchia? Please excuse me if I have spelled these names incorrectly! My husband and I are flying into the Rome airport and will be going on a cruise leaving from the dock at Civitavecchia. We land at the airport about 8 a.m. and are not able to board the ship until 1 p.m. at the earliest; sailing time is not until later that evening. So we have plenty of time to travel to the ship. We are just not sure of the best way to do it. We know that we can arrange for a shuttle service through the cruuise line, or through a private shuttle service, but it seems very expensive (nealy $170 for the two of us). Is it advisable to take the train from the airport into Rome and then get another train out to Civitavecchia? It might be cheaper, but it sounds like a lot of time and trouble. If someone could offer advice on this, we would surely appreciate it! Mille grazie!
