When I was small, a trip to the seaside was probably the highlight of the year (or at least the school holidays) Many fond memories relate to running through sand dunes or trying to stay afloat on a dinghy, or more frequently simply standing upright in the wind swept and rugged beaches of Northern Ireland where I grew up.
We now live, in slightly more sunnier climes of the South East of England! That is to say between Walton-on-the-Naze and Frinton-on-sea in Essex; or the Sun Shine Coast as the tourist board would have it called!
Our children take living by the Sea for granted - yet as we went for an evening stroll the other evening; Josh (5) still wanted to go on the sand! "Got to go on the sand when we come to the beach Dad!" - it is great and since we've been living here we do have a disproportiate number of friends and family that want to visit!!
