Cuenca is a very calm and clean city with a nice atmosphere. And without any high buildings! It is a wonderful alternative to the two big/dirty/noisy cities Quito & Guayaquil.
Some facts: Cuenca is the third largest city in Ecuador. It is located in the highlands of Ecuador at about 2500m (8200 ft). Its full name is Santa Ana de los cuatro ríos de Cuenca. The actual population is around 400,000 people. Cuenca has a long lasting reputation for being a university city. And it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its beautiful historical centre, the colonial buildings... There are some interesting museums, some nice buildings, a lot of cultural activities, a beautiful very big national park just south of Cuenca... But sometimes this is just not enough... A bit boring. I really liked Cuenca, don't get me wrong. Its a good place to relax. Or even live.
The Parque Calderon is the main square in Cuenca. Its nice to sit on a bench under the big trees, talk about life and listen to some local music from the loud speakers. But dont expect too much: this is not a very lively park. Mostly old people like to sit there... |
