Quito - I loved it from the very first moment!

by pendeja - last update: Jan 10, 2007

Alot of people dont really like Quito. But I dont understand why. I just love this city! Ok there is some smog, it is sometimes a bit dirty, it is mostly "cold", you can have some problems because of the altitude, there is alot of delincuency... But I still love Quito because of its people, because of the beautiful old town, the parks where on sunday its really crowded and alot of men play volley, because of the surrounding mountains, of the picture you see aboth and because of the crazy things which happened to me when I was there...
Some facts:

Quito is the capital of Ecuador. The city's elevation is 2,850 m (9,300 ft), making Quito the second highest capital city in the world. There live about 1,700,000 people, so Quito is the second most populous city in Ecuador after Guayaquil. The equator is about 25 km (15 miles) away. Due to its altitude and location, the climate in Quito is mild to cool, fairly constant all year round.
Quito is divided into three areas, separated by hills: the center (the colonial old part), the southern part (mainly industrial and residential, a working-class housing area), the northern part (modern Quito, with high-rise buildings, shopping centers, the financial district and upper class residential areas)
The "centro histórico" was appointed as the first UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Site in 1978.
