Prague - More Than 100 Spires

by DavyJB - last update: Jan 12, 2007

We've been back

Old Town Square ready for Christmas
Having already been to Prague in March 2006 my girlfriend Jayne and I had a chance to return in early December having enjoyed it so much on our previous visit. We still did not see everything we would have liked to have seen but that means we will have to revisit sometime in the future.
Detail of Astronomical Clock

Astronomical Clock

The astronomical clock is always a big draw when the clock comes up to the hour for its show and when it has done you are left thinking is that it but that said it is an absolutely fantastic piece of engineering and architecture. At the centre of the clock dial is the Earth and the hands have the sun and moon on them not only telling the time but also showing what position they are in the sky as the dial of the clock has a 24 hour scale rather than 12 hour. The other dial on the clock represents the signs of the zodiac and moves around the main dial anti-clockwise. Finally the outer ring of the clock also moves so that when the sun hand gets to no.1 on the dial it is sunset.
HC Sparta Prague v HC Slavia Prague

Ice Hockey

No matter what country we visit we always try to catch a game of hockey, we managed to see the local derby between Sparta and Slavia Prague and to say it was intense is an understatement the atmosphere was brilliant with the fans of both sides singing and chanting throughout the game and the quality of the hockey was great.

The bust is by an artist I know, Olinka Broadfoot. You can find more of her work at . She was born in Prague and still creates many of her fine pieces there.

Thanks for the appreciation, nice start on your pages. I must see Prague in the winter sometime - and I saw HC Slavia as well (they lost)
