Famous coast attraction

San Simeon is famous for one thing: Hearst Castle. If you are stopping here it is most likely to see this grand testament to one man's grand ambitions and dreams. Beautiful to some, ostentatious to others, there is no doubt that by seeing the castle you are fulfilling in some way the ambitions of William Randolph Hearst.

What else to do?

The State of California thankfully has obtained much of the land near this property and along the coast, preventing it from becoming an overdeveloped commercial zone. The State Park provides miles of beautiful scenery for those who venture inland, and the nearby beach is a good place to stretch your legs and clear your head after being shuffled through the castle on a tour.

Nearby towns

In my opinion, the town of San Simeon doesn't have much to offer besides basic accommodations. Most people who spend the night go to Cambria, just to the north. We prefer Cayucos, to the south. It seems a little more authentic, less developed, and quieter.
