Historic downtown Campbell

The suburban sprawl that identifies the San Francisco Bay area, and especially the south bay, has interesting pockets that once were individual towns. After WW11 development spread and these small centers were surrounded by housing and strip malls. One of these centers is Campbell, in the heart of the Santa Clara Valley. Campbell was in the center of an agricultural area with a lot of orchards. That is gone now, but the older town core is still intact. The older buildings now house restaurants, shops and some bars, and many of them are worth coming to see. There is also a popular farmers market on Sunday mornings in the spring and summer.
Some restaurants with good food and economical prices: Aqui and Sonoma Chicken Coop.
A good pub: Katie Bloom's
Quality food and nice atmosphere: Twist.
Shops: books, olive oil and produces, wine, sporting clothes, clothes botiques.

The Pruneyard area.

On the other side of the highway (880) is the newer Campbell. You will see the high rise black glass buildings from the highway from miles away. This is what is called the Pruneyard. The orchards are all gone, and now there are shops and offices. One nice thing about this area is that instead of making just another strip mall they built more of a center that mixes business high rise buildings with low level shops and restaurants. I wouldn't say this is a tourist destination, but if you are in the area, it makes for a decent place to go for dinner, a movie or shopping.
notable Bar & restaurant: Rock Bottom Brewery
Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Mediterranean restaurants here too.

Campbell's landmark water tower

This water tower seems to be the best known landmark in Campbell. You can see it from highway 880, which splits the town. On the other side of the highway you see the stark, black glass buildings of the Pruneyard office area.

Campbell is known to many as the home of eBay. Their office complex is located on East Hamilton Ave., not far from the Pruneyard. It looks like a big office park, which it is. Not too exciting.
