As in most cities, naming a praticular club or bar is ludicrous, as most places only exist for three or four months. The trick is knowing the areas to check out. Georgetown is great for studenty/yuppie-type bars; Adams-Morgan is a bit more grungy/hippie/Greenwich Village-esque; downtown (F&G Streets, 11-13th Ave or so NW) has your large warehouse-sized dance clubs. You can find great Salsa dancing all over town.

Dress Code: Look good. Black is de rigeur. Polyester is recommended, as is leather. DC is a very image-conscious city, so you simply must look fly.

Swing at Glen Echo: Swing at Glen Echo Dance Clubs Review

Glen Echo is a fabulous old carnival ground in Maryland just outside of the District. Every Saturday (I think) the gorgeous Victorian-style Spanish Ballroom plays host to a huge live Swing dancing spectacle. Free lessons are followed by all-around crazy Gap-ad worthy swing. Tons of fun for both beginners and experts, for 8-year-old whirling dervishes to old-timers to swing-kids.

Dress Code: If you're good, wear your zoot-suits and saddle shoes. If not, stick with basic club attire. Kick up your heels and have fun!

Directions: Glen Echo is on the Clara Barton parkway on the Maryland side of the Potomac.
