The town that never sleeps Glasgow is truly made for young people. You won't find a lot of pictures here, as I used ot live in Glasgow and everything looked so familiar I didn't bother - but there's more than a fair share of reviews of restaurants, pubs and bars you'll need to sample.
The centre of Glasgow is Merchant City, and there is a big pedestrian zone from Argyle Street, via Buchanan Street, to Sauchiehall Street, shaped as a S, that harbours the main shops of the town, the highest cinema in Europe, some theatres and the town main train stations, Queen Street and Central Station. |
The European capital of culture Glasgow hosts wonderful museums and galleries, either private, belonging to the Council, or managed by the National Trust for Scotland or Historic Scotland. Among others: ^v^ The Burrell collection ^v^ Pollock House ^v^ Kelvingrove museum ^v^ The Museum of Modern Art ^v^ The People's Palace . . . There are many architectural sights around the town. Notably the West Brewery, the entire Merchant City district, the Cathedral and the Necropolis. |
A few words of warning The accent is difficult to understand, even if you've already lived in the Highlands like I had, and the behaviour you'll witness will get you down in the long term. As an American friend of mine put it: the nice thing about Glasgow are foreigners. Though it is harsh and exaggerated, bear that in mind and be careful. |
