Well, the Mexican government has been working hard to develop tourism at Huatulco. One of the ventures is to encourage people in local villages to set up stalls/demonstrations/exhibition s of thei wares/skills. We went, by minibus, to a fruit stall demonstration ---excellent to a we-use-this-cactus-for-so-many-things talk ---interesting for some to a craft market ---lots of woven baskets, mats etc to a trafitional herb garden ---not good for us English, with our gardens to a tapas-making demonstration ---interesting. Look in the church too!
The prices were Mexican prices ---and so a good deal for us. the guide and driver were excellent. Would I go again....possibly. This write-up will cover 5 entries ---one for each stop so that I can show the photos.

Please see write up on my 'crafts and tourist attractions' page. Oh, try the tammarind ---you need to chew the sticky gunge around the centre. Bitter-sweet.

Please see my page ''crafts and tourist attractions for the main write-up. Oh, do notice the trainers! Even these 'poor' Mexican kids had cool trainers hidden around a corner. Also, the stall: the mother was asking us to try 4 different varieties of banana whilst the daughter was showing us some Mayan artefacts which she had found in surrounding fields.

Please see my 'crafts and tourist attractions' page for my main write up. I didn't stay in the nut for the demo. My wife stayed in and enjoyed the talk but not the heat! I wandered around inside the church which seemed very down on its luck. I'm sure that all donations are received with thanks.

Please see my 'crafts and tourist attractions' page for the main write up. If you're English (or maybe from somewhere else that has strong gardening traditions) this may be a disappointing visit. The herb gardens are sparse but the hospitality is excellent.

Please see my 'craft and tourist attractions' page for the main write up. This was a 20 minute stop to have a brief talk about the basket weaving etc. and then you have an opportunity to buy the things!

Please see my 'crafts and Tourist attractions' page for the full write up. To me the talk was boring ----well, no, not boring but it was hot and humid and my attention span was short. So I wandered around the place instead! My wife enjoyed the talk; once it was finished we were served cold drinks and fruit. Oh, look at the photos of the cacti ---one shows a house with a dish! Impoverished? Good luck to them I say! Well done the Mexican government.
