The paratrooper on the church....

Awful, touristy town that is full of shops selling WWII tat - 'Airborne' tee-shirts, US Army 'clickers' and other over-priced rubbish.

One of the first French towns liberated after the D-Day landings, paratrooper John Steele's parachute caught on the spire of the town's church leaving him hanging above the battlefield below. He survived by feigning death and was rescued the following day. A dummy complete with parachute now hangs from the church spire.

All very tacky and overly commercial really....
