The area of Castelli Romani is very popular among Romans, especially on warm evenings during weekends. This region is located about 35km from Rome and includs several small, picturesque towns; Albano Laziale, Ariccia, Castel Gandolfo, Nemi, Frascati, Genzano di Roma and more. It's worth to spend one day in Castelli Romani while visiting Rome, the area is very easily reached by car. Remember to try panino con porchetta (sandwich with pork), it's a typical dish of this region, you will see lots of food stands along the streets.

Nemi is a charming town which makes part of Castelli Romani. Located about 500 meters above sea level, it has an amazing panoramic view of Lago di Nemi (Nemi Lake). Even though it's the smallest from all the towns which make part of Castalli Romani, it's very beautiful and worth seeing. There are four trails, so you will be able to walk down the hill to the lake (4km) or just to the view point to have a great view of the lake. The map of the trails is located right after the main square. If you are lucky to be in Rome the first Sunday of June, don't forget to go to Nemi to see the Festival of Strawberries. Strawberries are one of the Nemi's attractions, all year round there are stands selling these fruits.

Montefiascone is a charming town, located above Bolsena Lake. It was considered saint by Eutruscans and was an important political and religious center at that time. Today from here you can see the beautiful view of Bolsena Lake, just fallow the signs for Belvedere, you can park your car nearby, or walk from the center of the town towards the Rocca dei Papi (a castle) and from there you will be able to see the lake as well. Wandering around narrow streets we got to The St. Margherita Basilic (XV) and later to the central piazza. Montefiascone is a small town, but it's worth visit for it's beauty and awesome panoramic view of Lago Bolsena and Umbria Mountains. It's another town located in Tuscia, the Northern part of Lazio, about 120 km from Rome. Planning a trip to this part, it's considerable to spend there 2 days and be able to visit not only Montefiascone, but also other neighborhood towns and of course take a walk along the shore of Bolsena Lake.

Bracciano Lake is located about 1 hour drive from Rome. This is an amazing place to spend a sunny day, take a stroll along the lake shore, visit Bracciano castle and have a picnic. This is the second largest lake in Lazio, the first one is Lago Bolsena. Lago Bracciano is a watershed for Rome, so its water is very clean. Around the lake there are only three small towns: Bracciano, Trevignano Romano and Anguillara Sabazia, all worth your time and visit. Bracciano - it's the first town when we arrive from Rome. Leave your car on a parking outside the historic city center and walk towards the castle. It was built in XV, nowadays it still in a very good shape and it can be visited daily. Entry ticket 7 Euro. Buy a ticket and see the magnificent interiors as well as beautiful panoramic view on the lake. As an extra, you will see also where Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes got married.

Trevignano Romano is the second town located near Bracciano Lake and I need to say that it's my favorite. I think because it's just at the shore so you can walk along and see the crystal water of the lake. Trevignano Romano is one of this typical Italian towns, it's historic center is small with narrow streets and brick homes. It's a real pleasure, first to stroll along the lake, after walk the historic alley and later walk up the hill to have the full view of the lake.

San Felice Circeo is my favorite summer place close to Rome. The beach is big, clean and the sea is amazing. What's more there is a beautiful view of the mountain. This place's quite busy during summer holidays: July and August, so it's better to go there during May and June when the weather is nice and the beach is almost empty. If you go during weekend there can be traffic, so leave early in the morning. While in Circeo you can go for a dinner to Sperlonga, a captivating town right at the sea shore (about 30 min drive from San Felice Circeo.

So much II World War history one hour drive from Rome. Monte Cassino has a special meaning for Poles, but I think most people will be interested to see the monastery and Polish cemetery. It is really worth to see the Abbey for its architecture and a beautiful view from a terrace. You will be able to see the panoramic view on the whole valley. More details on CASSINO page
