The first thing you learn about Houston is that it is spread out. Suburb after suburb growing out into the prairie. It can take most of a day to go from one end to the other. And no, they haven't learned about mass transportation... The freeways are well built and busy. Since we were only there the better part of three days, maybe we only got a first impression. But it was enough to say we enjoyed the city and wouldn't mind going back to visit. |
| | Historic places We learned more about Sam Houston than we knew existed in our three day visit. I guess when the town is named after him you find statues to him and monuments to him and museums devoted to him. There is more to Houston's history than Sam Houston, but we weren't there long enough to see it. |
and agriculture If you drive far enough you do manage to get out of the city and into some farm land. I have to include it. It is the first cotton field and plant that I have ever seen in real life.
We had to drive out that far to get to our Texas barbeque. It was all homemade so sorry I can't share some great restaurant to go to. But being homemade it was very authentic, brisquet, chicken, salad, beans and more- way more than I could eat. We sat outback as the sun went down and enjoyed good food, good company and the end of a wonderful day. | | | They looked right for pickin |
