Since 1998 I stay in this hotel every time I am in DNK. I come here every year. And I have seen it change, slowly, for the better. Not expensive, clean rooms with bathrooms. Charging around € 40 to € 50 per room per night (EC/MC, VISA and AMEX accepted). Nice location along the embankment of the Dnepr river. (Lenin Embankment). Friendly staff but shy and that makes them look unfriendly, almost surly, sometimes, although improving. The (mostly elderly) floor ladies are friendly and very helpful. Ask them anything and they will try to help you and do it-wash your clothes, iron your good shirt, mending buttons etc. Breakfast included, downstairs in the restaurant (service terrible, "back to the USSR") and there is a small cafeteria on the 2nd floor which is OK. The ladies there are also friendly but keep in mind that they work shifts of 24 hours. (Open 24 hours). So early morning some things could go wrong but they are nice enough. Shifts change around 9 am.
10 minutes walk towards Lenin Square and just before reaching it is a large modern internet cafe which name is "High Tech." Closed down this summer, 2007. There is one now in the shopping mall across (City Center Most Shopping Center), 2nd floor past the food court.

Unique Qualities: Nice location, nice view of the Dnepr river. ATMs outside the hotel. Several nice and good restaurants along the river. Walking distance to TZUM department store on Karl Marx avenue/Lenin square, McD fast food. Further along K. Marx Av (westbound, to the train station) is a handicrafts market.
When facing the station, on the left hand side is a large and very good self-service restaurant with Ukrainian food. Not expensive and very good. Forgot the name, will update.
Take tram 1 to go to the train station (westbound) and to the Museum (eastbound) and War monument (enter by the tank on display)-nice view of the Dnepr.
Take a boat trip of 1 hour, drinks and food served. Very nice to do.
It helps to know some Russian words....(bread, butter, juice etc).
