"Grand Sable Dunes--Pictured Rocks Nat'l Park" Grand Marais by Tamilynn_1972

My friend Bob and I drove from his home in downstate Michigan to the UP of Michigan where we both grew up. Heading toward our final destination of Lake Linden, Michigan, we decided to camp along the way up and explore parts of our homestate we had not seen before. We decided to head to Grand Marais where the Grand Sable Dunes on Lake Superior stretch for miles and are virtually untouched. Incredible place to see and visit and the beauty of this great lake is truly breathtaking!

Heading west from Grand Marais, we stopped at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore...a rather famous part of the Lake Superior shore (for those Michiganders anyway). As you can see from the photo, the sandstone cliffs offer a short of "picture-sque" portrait that only gets more and more pronounced and beautiful after each harsh winter. This picture shows a famous structure known as "Miner's Castle" that recently lost part of the top changing the view quite a bit. Amazing stuff. You can rent kayaks or pontoon boats or take a trip on some glass bottomed boats to see life alongside and below the water.
