Snowshoeing Around the Keewenaw Peninsula

Growing up in this remote Michigan location, the snow was typical for us---we never thought about any winter being worse than the last---they were all filled with 300" or more of snow a year---

Went back home for a visit last winter and snowshoed around Lake Superior and the inland areas too. Wanted to share these pictures as they are as beautiful a pictures as I've ever taken.

On the shores of Gitchee Gumee...

On the shores of Lake Superior....near a old mining town called "Gay, Michigan!" It's now desolate for the most part except for the "Gay Bar" which is an off-the-beaten-path bar in the heart of Gay that snowmobilers or scenic drivers stop at to get a "cool one!" No homosexual connection whatsoever, just a name that once meant "happiness" and "joy"..two words that would've described this town in the late 1800's.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Amazing outdoor life....remote, quiet and the start of US 41, which travels from here to Key West, Florida!
Cons:Nothing---unless you don't like solitude. Relaxing, not much nightlife...
In a nutshell:Pristine, untouched, secluded, beautiful, relaxing, a place worth the time it takes to get there.
