Getting there

Nuuksio National Park is described well on web pages, but to make it short: if you don't want to use your car, you need to get somehow to Espoo center (or close), then take a city bus. From Espoo you use ticket with number '1' - for those living outside of Finland ;-) Buses of Helsinki area are well described on http://www.hsl.fi/EN/Pages/default.aspx. You need to catch 85 or 85K bus somwhere, then you can go to closest possible point - a bit less than 2 kilometers from park entrance place.

Walking around

What is amazing there - is of course nature. You may do a lot of things there - like swim in the lake or ride a bike. Of course - walking anywhere is allowed as well - you don't have to keep a signed track if you don't like to. But beware - park is quite large and in case you are lost you may be on your own as trees are one of the best electromagnetic wave blockers... ;-D Your mobile can be useless at some places in the Park, so better have a good map/GPS/compas or anything else which may allow you to find your way back just in case.

Look

Besides of getting lost, it is really worth of going off the path sometimes to see another beautiful lake or just climb up/down some rock you like or see something from closer distance. Entire area is in general quite rocky, there are numbers of hills, mostly covered with old forest. There are several lakes spread around a Park and also some swamp areas, so keep your eyes opened as they are usually well signed, but you'll never know. Especially if you go ou

For me particular nice was possibility of picking up mushrooms and forrest berries which is also allowed there. Basically, you can pick up anything eadible, and you must not touch anything else (so eg. you can't take a nice small piece of stone or flowers from there). Number of mushrooms and berries is just uncountable - during proper season. I was there between August and September, so that was very good time to find some 'forrestfood'.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Silence, beautiful views and landscapes, great place for spending time outdoor
  • Cons:You need a while to get there - but it is worth of it.
