Sydney's Royal National Park. Established in 1879, Royal National Park is the world's second oldest national park - after Yellowstone in the USA.
Only 32 km from Sydney, the Royal packs incredible natural diversity into a relatively small area. It offers riverside picnics, great surf beaches, clifftop heathland walks, rainforest cycle tracks, and much more. |
THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR: While driving in the National Park, please keep an eye out for the following:
Wildlife; They can appear out of nowhere and dart in front of your car. Kangaroos have been known to completely write cars off.
Branches; The Rangers do a great job at keeping the road clear, but they can't be everywhere at once.
Cyclists; The park is a great ride and there are usually heaps of cyclists on the weekend. You can't always pass them immediately so please be patient.
Fire Bans; There are signs throughout Australia indicating the fire danger for the area. Please take special notice of these especially when entering the National park as bushfires are a big danger in Australia. Even throwing a cigarette out of your car window is dangerous, please stub out any cigarettes/cigars and remember that it is an offence to throw anything, including cigarette buts out of your car window. |
| One of the many views from Bald Hill |
| | Bald Hill Bald Hill is a great stop for anyone driving or riding through the park. They always have an ice-cream and hot dog van which also serves hot and cold drinks. Hang Gliding is also a popular activity to do, taking off from Bald Hill and landing on the nearby beach at Stanwell park. Bald hill is the birthplace of flight when in 1894 aviation pioneer, Lawrence Hargrave, paved the way to man's first flight. The lookout provides breathtaking views of the coastline and escarpment. |
