"History Lovers Delight" Annapolis Royal by babygrand

Port Royal is the first Euopean settlement here in Canada, and, I believe, in North America. This primitive French fortress has been rebuilt with great care and detail to allow visitors to get some understanding of colonial life here in Canada. It is amazing to consider people worked and lived in such a confined amount of space, yet there are work shops, dungeons, dining halls, all the necessities for a town, in about the size of a largy high school. It is an interpretive site, so there are people to answer your questions and they are wearing the clothing of the day.

No Pix of this, so the attached is a continuation of Port Royal. While Port Royal was the French fortress of its day, Fort Anne is British/ It is a lovely spot to visit, enjoy a picnic, and wander through the museum. It is not quite as hands on inside as Port Royal, so this year we didn't take the littles. They'll get to go next year. The best part of Fort Anne is that it is right in the heart of the Town of Annapolis Royal, and that town is literally a little gem. Overlooking the Bay of Fundy, in the heart of the agricultural region of the province, you can visit many unique and interesting spots. If you are visiting Nova Scotia, please, I beg you, don't pass on Annapolis Royal!
