Languedoc is rich in history. The Crusade against the Cathar belief, who made their last stand in their mountain strongholds in the Pyrenees, has left its mark on this beautiful province in the South of France.
- Pros:Carcassonne, Cathar Castles, French Pyrenees, Albi
- Cons:getting there !
- In a nutshell:Medieval Open Air museum

It's a great and mysterious piece of France indeed! Lots of legends.... >><><><><><><
Wonderful photos. Following the Cathar trail, we visited Carcassone, Beziers and Minerve - the last unforgettable in late afternoon winter sunshine. leyle
Lovely page about Languedoc Roussillon - thanks!
Nice page about Languedoc Roussillon! I was there more than 10 years ago and especially liked Carcassonne and Collioure (lovely!)!
Looking at some of these castles, it's no wonder the Cathars were able to hold out for two hundred years before finally succumbing. Interesting tips and photos.
Thanks for your comment, Michael. I love your Languedoc photos. Collioure is one of our favorite places too. Have you visited the ochre quarries near Roussillon? You'd love them. Absolutely stunning.
The castle town at Carcassonne also reminded of the one in the film "Ladyhawke"...Nice page
Nice pages, I love this part of France, as you say, it's steeped in history.
