I have a special place in my heart for this city as I lived and studied there for 2 1/2 years. Due to the fact that Bamberg miraculously escaped most of the World War 2 - bombings, it features a uniquely preserved Old Town with a picture-perfect ensemble of medieval, renaissance and baroque elements. It is a vibrant student city with lots of cafes, restaurants and a general high quality of living.
And as I have lived there once, I never feel as a tourist when I visit Bamberg. I feel instantly at home again, like I`ve just been away for a short while.

YOu took some great pictures of the wonderful architecture here, and the comments very helpful. We are planning to try and see this city next spring
Spent a lovely couple of days in Bamberg en route to Leipzig (the long way round) a few years ago. A room with the best view of the Town Hall at the Brudermuhle was just perfect, summer and the rose garden gorgeous. You're quite right - a lovely town.
