As the Saxonian dukes never had the means to compete with other major nations politically or militarily, they tried at least to outshine them culturally and created what was the most glorious court of the baroque age in Germany. Their efforts are still very visible in the wonderful Dresden Old Town. Dresden, after the destruction of World War 2 and the neglection of socialist times, has managed to save its heritage against the odds. |
