Nauru

What can I say about Nauru..........

Nauru. I spent three months here. This was my second trip overseas. I was 23 years old and my company asked me to work there. I stayed at one of the two hotels there. It looked like it may have been an alright resort once upon a time but not anymore. The country wasn't in good shape back in 2003 and probably still isn't. This resort was slowly roting away like the country itself. Use to be a very rich little country once but it became another victom of corruption.
The Hotel pool was empty. Well it was lightly filled with dirty rain water and garbage. The wooden rails on the balcony were roting and you couldn't lean against them. One of the hotel cleaners did and she fell three stories down and died. When I was there the hotel didn't have it's own generator so when the Islands power failed the aircon and lights did too! Seen as the Island was only 55km from the Ecuator and was over 40 degrees every day it got pretty hot! There's no beach either. The whole island is surrounded by reef. You can swim at the harbour though. Just make sure you either swim at dusk or put on a lot of sunscreen because you'll burn alright! The locals are nice. Once they hit about 15 most of them seem to put on a few extra kilo's. They love Aussie Rules Football! When you greet them you nod your head up not down. Nod it up and slowly let it come down. You'll get plenty of practice if you go there but my guess is you never will! I don't recommend it either. It's not the most exciting place in the world. Also you may find it hard to get there. Air Nauru no longer exsists and getting a visa may be difficult. Seriously, don't go for a holiday here. You'll regrete it.
