Central Park: Enjoy Central Park

  • Carriage Ride around Central Park

  • Central park is a huge place to hang out. You can do anything from lay on the grass and read a book, to take a carriage ride around the park. A bit expensive, but why not? Also if you were lucky enough to see "the gates" while they were up, it was a sign to see.

Empire State Building: Visit the Empire State Building
  • Tip Rating:
  • New York City Empire State Building
  • View from the empire state building
  • by April1985
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • I love the movie, Sleepless in Seatle. I told my boyfriend I wanted to go to the empire state building one day, just like in the movie. One our one year anniversary, he suprised me by taking me here. I thought it would be so romantic, but, unfortunatly, all the people, and little children running everywhere, and pushing, made it a little like, "okay, we saw it, lets leave" But while we were up there, the sky was lit up, and just looks so beautiful. It is nice to go visit. but once you've done it, you will never do it again.

    Chinatown: Shopping & Sight Seeing
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • I love Chinatown. It so festive, but very crowded. People dont care if they bump into you, and the smell of fish is terrible, so learn to breath out of your mouth! Shopping here is so much fun. There are a few pastry shops here, that sell amazing almond cookies, baked fresh every day. As well as fortune cookies, and other tasty delights. Walk around and have fun taking pictures, maybe buy your self a samari sword!

    Little Italy: San Gennaro Festival
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Going to Little Italy is one thing. Going to Little Italy during San Gennaro, is a totally different experience. The smell of food in the air is amazing! The people are so friendly, and once you sink your teeth into anything you buy, is like your in heaven!

*update: I am actually going back to Little Italy for the 79th Annual Feast of San Gennaro (Sept. 2006). Since I have been in NY, this is one of the only festivals I tend to keep going to year after year. I am very excited to go take pictures, and buy delicious food, and share this experience with my boyfriend and one of my best friends. Its going to be a treat.

Now for some background information on the Feast of San Gennaro:

San Gennaro is one of New Yorks largest feat's/festivals. This year, in 2006, San Gennaro will be celebrating it's 79th annual feast. It will be 11 days long from september 14th - september 24th. The San Gennaro festival celebrates the Patron Saint of Naples. The very first San Gennaro festival took place on September 19, 1926. On this day in history, newly arrived immigrants from Naples settled along Mulberry Street in Little Italy (NYC) and they had decided to continue the tradition they followed in Italy. That tradition was to celebrate the day when Saint Gennaro was martyred for the faith in 305 A.D. Every year on September 19th, a Religious Procession happens that includes the Statue of San Gennaro. This statue goes down Mulberry and Mott St., between Canal and Houston St.. The procession begins immediately following a Celebratory Mass held at the Most Precious Blood Church on Mulberry Street, the National Shrine of San Gennaro. This is really interesting, especially for me, as I am not very religious, the saint is covered in money. I believe it is for good luck, but I am not sure. I have taken a picture in front of it a few years ago, and Ill do it again when I go there tomorow.

    Chelsea: Art Shows
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Chelsea is a great spot for Art shows. You can find the weirdest stuff. Either its good art, or bad art. You decide. I found out one of my favorite artists was coming to town, so of course i had to go, and share it with you of course! Miss Van, a grafiti artist.

  • I love going to see the tree during christmas time in Rockefeller Center. It really gets you in the holiday spirit. Its nice because every year, it is a brand new tree. They are actually donated by someone each year. It exciting to see how big it will be, year after year.

  • St. Patrick's Cathedral outside

  • The most beautiful church is New York. Located about a block from the ice skating rink with the huge christmas tree. It will be extremely crowded inside, so maybe you should go in the morning, or visit not around christmas. If your going to take a picture, make sure there is no flash, and the security guards dont see you. They are mean, and they will yell at you, and at worse, kick you out of church. I wonder what God must think. Anywho. Be smart, and curtious. ALSO - remember to take off your hat in god's house, this can get you kicked out as well. ENJOY !

Rockefeller Center: Ice Skating beneath the tree !
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • I have always wanted to go ice skating under the christmas tree in rockefeller center, so my marcus took me there, and i was so excited.. untill i saw the line of course... it was out to the street. We waited for about an hour and a half, thank god we brought out own skates ! Once we got on the rink, we couldnt even skate, the rink should only have about 40-50 people on it (its rather small) and there must have been 100-150 people , and wouldnt you know, they were all stopping to take pictures ?! well, if you cant beat 'em, join em i say. so, i took pic's too. I wasnt about to break my neck TRYING to skate. I think we stayed for 30 minutes, and got to skate around the rink twice.
