Hong Kong is a city of amazing contrasts. You need to pop around and explore what's hidden around you, fancy free. First and foremost, I would suggest you take the Star Ferry to take in a fabulous harbour view, and marvel at the spectacular skyline with all the fantastic shapes of the sky scrappers you could imagine. There it is - a multi-faceted city ready for your discovery, the liveliest night life and glazened neon signs on the streets. The food, ah glorious Chinese food, how can one resist the luring flavours of those regional dishes?
If you have more time in your hands, go to one of the many outlying islands and take a leisurely stroll on the rural walks there. The best times to stay in Hong Kong should be February to April and September to November.
The skyline of Hong Kong keeps on changing, and fast too. The above photo shows the newly built, the tallest skyscrapper in Hong Kong, on top of the airport train terminal in Central. The 'oldest' building in this photo should be the 10-storey white matchbox at waterfront, just 40 years old, incredible. Two noteworthy structures are I M Pei's stylish triangular-shaped Bank of China Building, and look furtherest up the peak, the curved palate of the Peak Tower just peeps out. Here's Hong Kong island, easily recognisable by the rolling hills all round the island, adding a lush green backdrop to the city and blending just so well with the waters in the Victoria Harbour. |
Colourful Contrasts Like a palatable plate in Chinese cuisine, Hong Kong dons all the colourful ingredients offering striking contrasts to every taste of any visitor. Just soak in the glittering lights in the busy streets at night time. Now the magic really begins here.
On the busy streets in Hong Kong, it's so easy to come across the many-splendoured faces of people passing you by. Immerse yourself in the wonderful colours during local festival time especially. Colours and fun of the dragon boat races, or the Mid Autumn Festival are certainly splendid delights. Hong Kong is a place with surprising wonders for all travellers to explore. Whenever I finish a short trip abroad, I can't help recollecting more fond memories of good old Hong Kong that I had momentarily missed. |
