Not exactly a literary trail for me | a typical Stratford street |
I would love to see Stratford filled with plenty of literary trails, like the scholar towns of Oxford and Cambridge for instance, but what I found was a touristy town of pubs and craft stalls, shops of some urbane taste. But then again, I would imagine in Shakespeare days, the place could have been more or less so, with contemporary tastes then. Anyway, there were the Bard's statue, the long boats, the Swans and the theatres to Shakespeare's fame, like the RSC and the Swann. |
| | Ann Hathaway's Cottage Perhaps the most popluar site to visit is the thatched cottage where Shakespeare's wife Ann Hathaway lived. It's not in Stratford town, but easy to get to anyway. the thatched roof is in very neat condition, one of the largest in Britain too, with a iron mesh roof superimposed to prevent rats and fowls I presume. |
| | Bard's great characters Now there's me beside a Hamlet statue with his poor Yorick, and the Bard sitting atop a high pedestal, with his back to the Thames, quite strangely. Oh, on other corners there are Lady Macbeth, Richard III and Falstaff too. But the pensive Hamlet is my favourite. |
