Canary Islands

by ClaesDenmark - last update: Sep 11, 2002

"Where are the Canary Islands ?" They are located 115 km (60 miles) from the coast of Morocco, Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. (Europe's own Hawaii) situated in the atlantic ocean 1050 km from Spain, 115 km from the African coasts.

The Canary Islands are the link between three continents: America, Africa and Europe.
Thanks to their priviledged geographical position, the Canary Islands Archipelago enjoys a spring climate during the whole year. The average number of days rainfall is 6.5 anually and the average temperature is 22şC.

The islands are Spanish territory, form part of the Eurpean Union and are politically a part of Europe.

Manufacturing : Banana. Tourism gives 70% of the canarian income

The canary islands, are during all the year the paradise for tourists who come here for blue sky, sea and tempered climate. Even in august, the temperature won't be too hot. As we have winter in Europe then it is fantastic to come here for the Christmas holiday in order to have a sunny weather. That is what I have done a number of times.

The language of the Canaries is Spanish (Castilian), but the accent is more like the Spanish spoken in the Caribbean -Cuba, Venezuela, Puerto Rico - and not like the Spanish spoken in Mainland Spain.
