"GRANADA - THAT MEANS THE ALHAMBRA!" Granada by mavl

(NOTHING PERSONAL AGAINST THE REST OF THE TOWN)

I HAVE BEHELD THE ALHAMBRA UNDER THE SOFT GLOW OF THE ORANGE ANDALUCIA SUN AND UNDER THE PALE LIGHT OF A FULL MOON - I CAN DIE NOW.

i first saw it on the pages of one of my dad's architectural digest magazines sometime in the late seventies - i was very young then. didn't know what it was, where it was, or how historically significant it was, i just knew that i couldn't stop gawking at how beautiful it was. now, that's the sign of true beauty - when something's aesthetic value registers in the unbiased eyes of a child.

eventually found out everything about it and quickly listed it as the one building on earth i most definitely wanted to see before i die. thanks to my grandfather, that dream came true!

to ensure the continuous flow of people through each room, visitors are only allowed a few minutes inside. after that, they are gently urged to, well, get out.

let's just say the ushers in the alhambra got to know me really well.

"you again? move it!"

if you are planning to visit the alhambra, there is only one thing you need to know: visit it during the day, and then visit it again during the night.

thanks to a last minute tip from a spanish priest friend of mine, i found out that you can also visit for a brief period during evenings. the lights play on the multi-faceted surfaces so beautifully that the experience is just as breathtaking as seeing it in daylight.

enjoy!

to me I reckon Granada is the AlHambra!Im happy to have been twice - really so beautiful - and so too is the Albacin - but like Moorish Andalucia I love the similar building beauties to be found in Morocco....
