Agios Gordis, Corfu

A view to Agios Gordis beach
Agios Gordis is one of the most beautiful beaches and areas in Corfu, on the west side of the island.
White house, residence of novelist L. Durrell

Kalami bay, Corfu

Everybody heard for Mr. Lawrence Durrell, famous English writer. From the 1935 until 1939 he lived at this very special place in Corfu, Greece. At this place, called Kalami, he wrote "Prospero cell" novel. At the stone house behind me (White house) he lived at the 70 m2 apartment which can be rented now for reasonable money. In memory of Mr. Durrell this apartment is named "Prospero Cell".
Liston area, Corfu

Corfu town

"The Platia, laid out with its great arches to resemble the Rue de Rivoli by French Architects in the early days of the French Occupation of Corfu, was the hub of the island. Here you would sit at little tables under the arches or beneath the shimmering trees and, sooner or later, you would see everyone on the island and hear every facet of every scandal. One sat there drinking quietly and, sooner or later, all the protaganists in the drama were washed up at one's table.

THE GARDEN OF THE GODS © Gerald Durrell 1978

"Gerald describes the Liston, the famous terrace fronted by arches, where in the morning and evening the cafes remain the centre of the island's social life. In later visits to Corfu, both Lawrence and Gerald would "hold court" at the Corfu Bar, known then as the "HQ" for gossip, assignations and celebrity spotting. The Corfu Bar, now called simply "Liston", is located in the middle of the arcade, to the left, as you face it, of the dividing road."
