"Land of Chianti" Gaiole in Chianti by B924576
Gaiole in Chianti Travel Guide: 5 reviews and 2 photos
In Italian, Castello means castle. That is where we stayed for a week. The Castello di Brolio is owned by the Ricasoli family, who have owned it since the 15th century or so.
The location is beautiful, in the hills of Tuscany, in the village of Gaioli in Chianti. The castle is stunning. Within the wall there is also a chapel and a keep. The views to the south are spectacular. The Ricasoli family still stay there during the warmer months. They rent portions of the castle to visitors. These portions are arranged as adjustable apartments, depending on the size of the party.
It is like living in a museum. While we were there we met and visited with the Baron and Baroness Ricasoli. Very gracious people. They gave us a little tour of their quarters.
The estate contains extensive vineyards that produce some of the best Chianti Classico I have tried. The premier issue is named after the castle. They also have a small grove of olive trees from which they produce oil.
