Crazy college kids at Ugly Tuna

College Town

The Ohio State University is a very large university (over 50,000 students), which contributes a lot to the Columbus community. Some parts of Columbus aren't as lively during the summer as they are during the school year. However, there are many places to enjoy nightlife. The university area has numerous bars and clubs, but places such as the Arena District, Brewery District, and German Village offer entertainment for the older or more sophisticated crowd. But if you are college age, then Ugly Tuna Saloona, Skye Bar, Out 'R Inn, Bento, etc. are places to be on campus area. You'll find different crowds at different bars, though. Preppy, fraternity and sorority people tend to go to south campus area bars (4 Kegs, Panini's, Ugly Tuna Saloona, etc.) while not preppy, artsy people tend to be at north campus area bars (Larry's, The Library, etc.).

Dinner at Liu Pon Xi at the Short North

Short North

Columbus has Gallery Hop the first Saturday of every month. On these nights, the art galleries on the Short North of High Street open late. They usually close around 10 or 11 PM, I can't remember. It's fun to go eat dinner at a nice restaurant on the Short North, go visit some art galleries, and then go to a bar. The Arena District is nearby, and Spice and Brothers' are some good bars/clubs to check out.

Concerts

There are usually plenty of concerts in Columbus. In 2005, I saw Lifehouse, Howie Day, Gavin DeGraw, Michael Tolcher, Rascal Flatts, and Switchfoot. Lots of big acts, such as the Rolling Stones, Blues Brothers, etc. come here a lot. Bands like Rascal Flatts and Saving Jane also include members from the Columbus area.
