The painted Bible in green and red

Somebody, here on VT, says that the paintings on the walls are “Comics, half a millennium old” and the author is making a smart comment about them which is in a way offending me.
As far as I know, even in the most advanced countries (500 years ago-some of them now) in Western Europe (like France or Italy, Germany or Spain), the religion was brought to the people using the architecture and the “comics” on the related stained glass works. The only difference was the cost of them.
I remember that, in the small Romanian village where I have grown-up, the Eden and the Hell where painted on the walls and I was disappointed when they have modernised the paintings.
Again, if I remember well, the origin of the most lavish architectural style in architecture-Baroc- was initiated by the decision of the western church to “impress” the simple people.
As a conclusion, they are not ”comics”, but painted stories about God, a kind of naive painted Bible.

Is this something about comics? I don't think so.
