Named after Sir Charles Darling, Lieutenant Governor of the Cape Colony in 1853, this little town is a hidden treasure. This area just inland of the West Coast road, is famous for its splendid burst of Spring flowers with magnificent displays of over 1,000 species during the wild flower festival at the end of September. This fertile land supports dairy herds, wheat, lupins, wine and wool. Manufacturing enterprises include textile, clothing and basket factories. One of South Africa’s most renowned drag artists and satirists, Peter Dirk Uys alias Evita Bezuidenhout, resides in Darling and puts on hilarious shows in his (her) own theatre. |
