Capitals is the DC team in the National Hockey League. It plays at the Verizon Centre, right in Downtown.

I got my ticket through Ticketmaster - $120 plus taxes etc, so about $140 all in. That was about as expensive as it gets without taking a box! You can get much cheaper - 3rd tier behind a goal, for example. But it's something I get to do every 10 years, so I was not going to skimp!

Good decision - ideal location about 7-8 rows back from the Caps' bench, and right above the dressing room tunnel. Really close up to the stars.

Caps lost 1-3 to Boston, but it was a very even game and it was only Bruins' goalie Thomas who stopped Caps from winning. Ovechkin was amazing.

Even if you're not a hockey junkie, it's a great experience to enjoy the atmosphere generated by 15k+ fans in an indoor arena. Then as a European, to experience the "American way" of doing big sports events!

Equipment: Cash - you have to visit the shop, buy a programme ($2) and gorge yourself on the beer, pizza and other delights on offer in the concourse!
