2nd home? I lived there from 1982 until 1999. Got married there in 1989. My son was born there in 1993. Lived in Shawlands, then Merchant City, then Bishopbriggs. Never settled. Didn't like the climate. Didn't like the religious divide. People are a bit schizo. Like to claim they're friendly and open, but most of the time they seem to be drunk, rude and aggressive, interested only in drink, football and religion. |

good points It has lots. Some good pubs, some good restaurants, same for architecture and culture. Its a bit of a desert on the sporting side unless you are a Celtic or Rangers nutter. On the playing side, if you don't like footie, too bad. Move away. |

verdict My mistake is having broad horizons. In the last 6 months (this was written in October 07) I've been to see football at Hearts, Fenerbahce, Raith Rovers and Newcastle United, horse racing at Perth and Edinburgh, ice hockey at Edinburgh Capitals and Slavia Prague. Being narrow minded don't come easy. Will always enjoy going back to visit, but not to live. |
