"Way off the main road" Wasserburg am Inn by iaint

Wasserburg am Inn Travel Guide: 20 reviews and 40 photos

A friend’s elder daughter is living a few kilometres away, and while visiting we went over for lunch, shopping and a bit of sightseeing. It was a very wet day after a very wet night, so the river was very high indeed.

The town occupies a “peninsula” formed by a tight bend in the River Inn. It’s almost an island. It dates back to the 11th century and its location on the Inn gave it a strategic position in trade routes - particularly for salt. Its heyday was in the 15th century.

My "to do" tip on the bridge has a link to the municipal website, and it gives lots of historical etc information.

It’s 50 kilometres due east of Munich.

My impression is its a town not much visited by foreign tourists, perhaps because it’s in the shadow of so many better known Bavarian sights.

Our visit was limited by the weather, the girls’ need to shop, and the teenagers’ unadventurous approach to menus. I’d like to go back - looked good in the rain, so with a bit of sun, who knows!
