Getting TO/AROUND: Best way to city centre from Fiumicino Airport. 30 minute journey, and trains run every 30 minutes. €11 one way for an adult (Dec 07). At the city end its Termini station.

At the airport station most people queue at the ticket desk or queue to tackle the automatic machines. We found that the newsagent 2 shops along from the Trenitalia desk also sells train tickets - same price and no queue!

Its called an express train, but it ain't quick! That just means its non stop, but slow!

Remember to validate your ticket before you board - yelllow machines beside the platform

Getting TO/AROUND: we used the metro several times when we just wanted to get from A to B.

€1 for a single journey up to 75 minutes. By comparison with somewhere like London, price is just sooo low

trains not as frequent as in other cities, and there are only 2 lines, but still very useful

Airports from/to Rome: eating well @ Fiumicino

Getting TO/AROUND: last visit i spent 5 hours hanging around airside at Fiumicino terminal B (i was a bit early for my flight, and then it was delayed 3 hours)

anyway, gave me plenty time to explore

the "cafe" type food places both seemed to be a mob scene - decide what you want, then queue to pay, then queue somewhere else to collect...plus lots of delayed flights (ATC having their fun) so very many hungry people; all for a sandwich or a slice of pizza (or both for fat boys like me)

BUT, if you look hard enough you will find a self service restaurant on the 1st floor with decent food; meat veg & potatoes, pasta, risotto, salad....

    much better

Excellent summary of the city, if you go to the Spanish steps again visit the Keats-Shelly house. :-)
