its good side | Notre Dame de la Garde seen from Vieux Port |
The old port area is great. Lots going on, great views from every angle. The city is very cosmopolitan, as a large port, with connections all round the Med, and North Africa in particular. It does not "feel" like anywhere else in France (at least where I've been). There is plenty to see and do over a 2/3/4 day visit. It is also easily accessed from Paris by TGV (3 hours) and can be used as a base for visiting other parts of Provence. |
| | to watch out for... It has some very poor areas, and more homeless, begging and crime than other places I've been in France. Watch out for your valuables!. We had no trouble, but you have to be vigilant. |
