The story so far...

My first visit was September '72 aged 19 (I'd been to France before a couple of times, but never Paris).

I went to Sorbonne for a week long training course, and stayed at the Cité Universitaire out on the south side.

I didn't enjoy it much, but it was an experience.

The middle bit
Métro - Paris

I visited many times in 70s, 80s & 90s to see friends, go to rugby internationals, as a normal tourist, and on business.

So many memorable experiences, including dinner at the Louvre.

More recently

For a while I visited friends in Sceaux frequently (it's 20 minutes outside city) so we went into the city all the time. I was growing to like it more all the time. So much to do!

I think I'm up to 20+ visits now...

This stuff was written in about 2007. I've been back a few times since then, but I'm leaving the original narrative meantime!

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:food & wine, sights, metro & RER
  • Cons:rip offs, arrogant locals (not everyone, of course)
  • In a nutshell:love my visits now
