Bridges: the bridge of Sighs
  • Tip Rating:
  • Venice has over than 400 bridges. One of them, maybe the most famous one is the bridge of Sighs that conects the Doges Palace with the prison. It took its name from the sighs of the politicians that were convicted by the council of Ten and were passing the bridge to go to the prison cells.

    Gondolas: Gondola Ride
  • Tip Rating:
  • When in Venice , a gondola ride is a must thing to do, although quite expensive :70 euros!
If you get lucky the gondolier may sing italian arias.
You cant be a gondolier if you dont come from Venice. Its the rule no1 of this special occupation that demands also row knowledge , learning foreign languages and ofcourse knowing of the history of Venice because tourists ask too much :)
From the second pic that I have here you can see the end point of the gondola called ferro and with its metallic teeth symbols the 6 sestiere (districts) of Venice under the hat of Doge.

Campanile and its Views: the bells
  • Tip Rating:
  • Visiting the Campanille and going up to the top gives great view of the city and canals. The bell tower has 5 bells that each one of them used to have a specific role.
MARANGONA is the main bell and it was ringing when the work was going to start and end.
TROTTIERA was ringing to announce the sessions of the Great Council.
NONA was ringing for the noon.
MEZZA TERZA for the reunions of the Senate.
RENGHIERA or MALEFICIO is the smallest one and its role was to announce the executions.
