There is also a big rumor that when it erupted in 1600 B.C., it not only devestated the Mediteranean Region known as the Aegean Sea but also destroyed the Atlantean Empire. Whatever the truth around Atlantis, the legend is alive on this Island that was created from the massive explosion of the mountain of Thira.
