  • The infamous Blarney Stone has a very enchanting and magnetic history surrounding it. Legend has it that it is the Blarney Stone is half of the original Stone of Scone. The Stone of Scone is the legendary stone that the biblical Jacob used to sleep upon.
"And he came to the place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it!" Book of Genesis (28:11-19)
Others have called this stone the Tanist Stone. In modern days, Hollywood in its movie Raiders of the Lost Arc, had Indiana Jones do some research on the Tanist Stone so that the Arc of the Covenent could be found (only in the movie). In reality, the Blarney Stone has been owned by many and has been placed in many famous locations from the biblical era all the way up to the modern era. Famous people in history who have owned this rock include the noble 14th century Scot King Robert the Bruce. Queen Elizabeth tacked on the word "blarney" to the castle and the rock, due to many elegantly written letters sent by the owner to pacify her from taking control of Blarney Castle. Rumor has it that whoever kisses the stone will be given the gift of eloquence in speech and character.
"There is a stone that whoever kisses,
Oh! he never misses to grow eloquent
'Tis he may clamber to a lady's chamber,
Or become a member of parliament."
    —Francis Sylvester Mahony
