The Blarney Castle: The Last Magical Castle

by RawdgerDodger - last update: Sep 18, 2006

Here she is!

Blarney Castle
Here is the magical Blarney Castle. Now, why is it magical? Did I see any Leprechauns? Could I catch any and find that pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow. I was looking for some but did not see any little green buddies. But if people think I wasted my time here in Blarney, think again. Au contraire mes amis, I did not see any Leprechauns but I did gain some eloquence by entering this charming castle and kissing a rock that many people have kissed. This famous rock is none other then the Blarney Stone.
The Tanist Stone

The Blarney Stone

The infamous Blarney Stone has a very sordid and interesting history surrounding it. It is a piece of history found in a rock. Legend has it that it is the Blarney Stone is half of the original Stone of Scone and whoever kisses it is bestowed with the gift of eloquance or the gift of gab. As I understand it, now since I kissed it, now I can speak easily to others. The Stone of Scone is the legendary stone that the biblical Jacob used to sleep upon. Others have called this stone the Tanist Stone.
"There is a stone that whoever kisses,
Oh! he never misses to grow eloquent
'Tis he may clamber to a lady's chamber,
Or become a member of parliament."
—Francis Sylvester Mahony
If we remember the movie Raiders of the Lost Arc, Hollywood did some research on the Tanist Stone so that Indiana Jones could have a believable story in his search to find the Arc of the Covenant. The Arc of the Covenant in legend is famed to hold the 10 commandments.
The Green around the Blarney Castle

The Green Around Blarney Castle

It is interesting to note how green it is in and around Blarney Castle. I wonder why?

Pros:"Beautiful, amazing, green!"
Cons:"Where's the elevator? J/K"
In A Nutshell:"Since I have a bit of superstition in me, I now posess the gift of gab."
