Praslin Island, Seychelles

Anse Takamaka - too shallow to swim

Anse Takamaka

We spent our honeymoon at Isle Des Palmes Hotel which is on the South East part of Praslin Island in the Bay. A perfect spot for a honeymoon because it so quiet and private. The beach is not the best on the island but still better than any beach in South Africa anyway. It's good points are that is normally deserted, and there are plenty of secluded tiny beaches that can only be reached by Kayak (which you can hire at Ilse Des Palmes) or boat because of the beautiful granite boulders. There is also alot of sea life there...plenty of crabs, hermit crabs, sting rays, pike fish, mud skippers, a variety of birds, giant tortoises and very large shells. The bad points are that you can't really swim there because for one, it's too shallow and secondly the prior mentioned sting rays! The shops at Baie St Anne are the closest but too far to walk & the bicycles that can be hired at the hotel are ridiculously expensive...15 euros for 2 bikes for 1 day. Cars are either 55 euros or 60 dollars per day.
Cote D'or - second best beach on Praslin

Cote D'or

Cote D'or is on the northern part of the island and is the second most beautiful beach on Praslin. White sand, turqoise water and a view of some very beautiful little islands including Coco Island. The water is beautiful for swimming and so calm that you can float on the sea. This beach is so spectacular, and only has one drawback...dodgy looking Jamaicans hanging around in the bushes all the time. On this beach there are some shops and restuarants. We ate at the Berjaya hotel restaurant, aka the octopus dining centre, which has a beach sand floor and lovely view, but the bland food was severely lacking chillie of some form. There is also an icecream shop which was quite disappointing. They have these posters of really exotic looking icecream which they don't sell. Instead they have a few tubs of icecream and they ask "what flavour?". They had run out of chocolate, which I thought was a bit sinful of them. And if anybody knows of anywhere on the island that sells ice lollies (iced cold drink on a stick) please let us know!
Anse Lazio - the most beautiful beach in the world

Anse Lazio

Anse Lazio, arguably the best beach in the world, definately the best beach on Praslin and the most amazing to swim in! This is the only beach that has waves, not big enough to surf but perfect to swim in. The beach sand is so white that you struggle to keep your eyes open and the sea so clear that while you are up to you kneck in the water, you can still see shells on the ocean floor and little white fish swimming around you. It is because of this beach that we have decided to make it our life mission to live on Praslin island! There is a snack bar there, but we did not eat there so no review sadly.

Pros:"Point your camera anywhere, and you are bound to have a post card picture because everything is damn beautiful"
Cons:"Very expensive, groceries are roughly 3 times more expensive than in South Africa"
In A Nutshell:"Seychelles...The locals are so spoilt that they call Mauritius a septic pool"

you seemed to get your fair share of gross things on your honeymoon. The spider and rat namely... hopefully it didn't spoil Praslin for you.
