Three different types of tourism. | Rembrandtplein - Statues of the Night Watch. |
There are three different types of tourism in Amsterdam:
1° A general type tourism with the classical tour of the town, canals, monuments and main museums. 2° A cultural tourism mainly interested in Dutch arts and history. 3° A "weed" tourism.
I am incompetent for this third type of tourism; my visits to Amsterdam were limited to the two first ones. Maybe I will change?.
Hereafter some comments about the museums I liked.

| | Dutch Cultural Identity. Something that stuck me in Amsterdam was that less and less people speak Dutch! The many foreign workers don't speak Dutch or do it very badly. Most often they speak English to understand each other. I also find that in Amsterdam the Dutch cultural identity is getting lost. The so typical Dutch cleanliness disappeared in Amsterdam; litter and graffiti over the place!
A great moment for me in Amsterdam: a genuine Amsterdammer on a bicycle asked me the way! We had a good laugh when I told him in Dutch (with a little Flemish accent) that I would be pleased to show him the way in Brussels but not really in Amsterdam.
I was pleased to visit Haarlem, at 20 minutes by train, were I found again Holland like it was on my first visits a quarter century ago.
