Burgos is the capital of the gothic art in Spain with the cathedral, the monastery of "las Huelgas" and the chartreuse of "Miraflores".
Burgos is also the town of Rodigo Diaz de Vivar "El Cid Campeador" the famous hero of Castile in the 11th c. and the husband of Jimena of Oviedo.
The legendary personality of El Cid according to the epic poem "Cantar de mío Cid" (around 1180), the later "Las Mocedades del Cid" by Guillen de Castro (1618) and the French tragi-comedy Le Cid from Corneille (1636) is rather different from the historic Rodigo Diaz.
…
"Va, je ne te hais point."
…
"Et le combat cessa faute de combattants."

Somehow I have not seen this page up to now – very interesting, especially your tip about the historic Rodigo Diaz, El Cid. I never knew he was also a mercenary who served Moorish king of Zaragoza and later led a combined Christian and Moorish army. Very different from the legend!
seems nice place to visit! very interesting architecture
your photos and tips are stunning eddy! i love to explore your pages, they are always of top quality, very informative, and i can learn something from them! bravo dear sir!
Very impressive gothic Cathedral of Burgos. I have certainly heard of El Cid, but now I know a little bit more about him. Thanks for sharing.
No doubt, I also prefer the Cid of Corneille.
