Very noble and very loyal city of Chinchon.

He who has travelled through the authentic Spain, that is well away from the "costas" of the Mediterranean Sea, will have seen monumental "plaza mayor" as those of Madrid or Salamanca, plazas of villages lost in the hills of Castile as the small square of Pedraza de la Sierra, but if he did not see the "plaza mayor" of Chinchon he hasn't seen much.

Surprising and picturesque Chinchon so close in distance (45 Km) of the capital Madrid and so remote in the time. The surprise becomes amazement when, upon arrival, one discovers that the square is transformed into an arena for bullfighting.

The device which appears at the foot of the blazon of the city was conferred to Chinchon by King Philippe V to thank the town for its loyalty.

Interesting tips about this small but significant town. I had forgotten that the painter Goya often stayed in Chinchon and was a direct witness of that massacre in 1808.

Lovely page on Chinchon. These are the type of little Spanish towns which I really enjoy to see. During a small VT Meet in Madrid, Chinchon was an added organized sidetrip.
