We always preferred the Christmas markets of the Alsace to those of Germany.
The linguistic proximity is not the only reason. We much like the architectural style of the Alsatian villages, especially those of the wine trail, the good atmosphere, the Alsatian food (in our opinion better than that of its German neighbour) and then the very good white wines.
Among the cities it is Colmar which has our preference.
The Christmas markets of the Alsatian cities and villages most often open at the end of November to close at the end of December, but this varies from place to place.

For gourmets.
Visiting the Alsace, especially at the time of the Christmas Markets, always caused with me an irrepressible access of greediness. Each shop's window is an invitation to eat so that I set up a travelogue of my gourmet souvenirs.

Excellent local customs tips on the food and wine of Alsace! Car burning is on the increase in Germany, too, especially in Berlin. I am not at all in favor of cars but I don't think they should be burned, just scrapped by their owners and not replaced.
An interesting page!
Well Eddy, you've been busy over the last few days. Love this page on Alsace, esp the food items like Flammekueche, Kougelhopf Cake & Beerawecka Bread. I think Hans & I would love it here.
Quel dommage! What a sad state of affairs when a New Year is "celebrated" in this manner..
